St James' Park becomes The Sainsbury's Stadium???

If ever you wanted proof that money rules over all else take a look at the recent news regarding Mike Ashley (current Chairman of Newcastle United FC) and his attempt to sell the naming rights to St. James' Park.
I think we can all agree that at this point in time, more than ever, Newcastle are a club in need of money. However, they aren't facing any immediate, catastrophic danger (unless there is something we, the fans, arent being told). Why is it necessary then, to auction off the name of a stadium that is a Mecca to tens of thousands of Geordie faithful? If Newcastle need money so badly, how is it that Mike Ashley is able to promise a £20million injection for the good of the current squad when they are in fact sitting, however uncomfortably, at the top of the table? Whatever the price tag placed on the naming rights of the stadium, I can't help but feel as though it isn't worth it. The name itself will never change. The fans, I'm sure, will always refer to their sacred place as St james' Park despite a 30ft tall, 'Tesco' or 'Exxon' sign hanging from the facade of the ground. All this would do, in my eyes, is cheapen the club in the eyes of so many, and at this moment in time, Newcastle already sit in 1st place in the category of Most Watched UK drama poll, ahead of both Corrie and Eastenders. Compelling as it is watching this saga unfold, it is painful. All a change would do would cause Mike Ashley to require ten times as many bodyguards whenever he comes within 100 miles of the North East.
If anything, this issue goes far beyond its repercussions on the local faithful. It is yet another reminder of the extent to which capitalism and amoral business practice dominate our world. How valuable is money, really? Where and when will we draw the line?

I hope to see plenty of fans flocking to the stadium should a deal for the stadium come close to being made.

If anything, Ashley should buy the rights to the name himself, name the stadium after Sir Bobby Robson, and in the process save what litte of his reputation (if any) that still remains. Worst of all, this (closet Sunderland) 'fan' has thus far given more ammunition to Newcastle's bitter local rivals than any Englishman could ever hope to fire at France.

Poppin' me blog cherry

Adamson here.
Just dropping a Sunday Post to announce myself very briefly.
I write this while watching The Phantom Menace so may have to 'force' myself to concentrate. Otherwise my attention will be far far away. Woke this morning at a lazy hour, minus one due to daylight savings or loss in this occassion. Found myself planning the day with footy as per usual, with some ESPN Classic possibly the best channel around for reminiscent archives of goals and tournaments. Watched a dramatic film of the 94' World Cup followed by Liverpool v Man U which only got interesting with 20 mins to go btw. Towards afternoon pigged out on whatever our Mother Hubbard's cupboards had to offer before practicing some shorthand which I will be tested on tomorrow......and nail! Oh and watched the final installment of the BBC's adaptation of Emma by Jane Austen. Really pleasant programme with some hot chicks and prominent cleavages which only boosts ratings. Romola Garai is my flavour of the month.
So until next time, you stay classy....bloggers.

Before I really get into posting about some serious shizzz (such as the BNP's lovely Mr. Nick Griffin MEP and his recent headline grabbing performances both on Question time and in the tabliods en général) I figured I'd start with something light hearted and in keeping with my Asian (more specifically Japanese) interest. For those hypocrites out there, like myself, who are highly entertained by the linguistic errors of those for whom English is not their lingua franca, whilst being comparably worse at speaking any number of foreign languages themselves... may this website give you as many cheap laughs as it has me. As I said... based on the quality of my German and Japanese I am a hypocrite in this circumstance... but funny stuff has to be shared as laughter makes the world go around... or at least it should...

Welcome to our blog...

Yalllllreeeettt (Hello, good-day, sup'?,waz poppin'?)

Just a couple of good-for-nothing students (i.e. one good-for-nothing student and one recent graduate/nostalgic wannabe-a-student-again-type) here with some extra time to throw away on a mindless and random blog. Thought-provoking fun is the aim. All opinions are welcome. Donations are ALWAYS welcome!

As the title description explains, one of us is a budding writer/journalist/comic/script-writing guru with a penchant for lemon and lime (together and laced mit Wodka) along with a flawless backswing and a Japan-bound (fingers crossed) aspirant polyglot with a G&T-addiction and a unquestionable downswing.

Our aim is simply to amuse ourselves and if we manage to provoke a response here and there... great. We look forward to the banter.

Good day,

ps. I, as the wannabe polyglot, may post in (basic and rough) Japanese from time to time to satisfy my sense of progress with regard to attempting to learn such a ridiculous language
